A business activity allows you to enter and store information about your interactions with current our potential customers or suppliers. The business activity can be used to plan future events such as a visit, presentation or product demo but it can also be used to log completed actions like calls, e-mails or chats.
The first step in a new entry is to enter the header section. The Connection Type defines if the activity is registered for a lead, account, supplier request or supplier. The Activity Type specifies if the activity is a meeting, task, call, chat or email. The Valid Activity Types setting on the CRM/SRM Default Values page defines which activity types you can use when a business activity is created manually, for instance by a sales representative. Other activity types like for example chat, will only be used to automatically create activities to log interactions with a workflow or an integration.
Connection Type and Activity Type control the business activity page and the visibility of some fields.
Business Activity Sub Types can be used to provide additional information about the type of activity. On the Business Activity Sub Types page you can add the sub types and define for what type of activities they should be used. There is also an option to select if activities with certain sub types should be set as read-only. If an activity is created automatically to log a past interaction like a chat, you can prevent that the activity is manually changed by using a sub type which has the Read-Only option selected.
By default, the activity will have the Not Started status. The status can be changed later via the related command. The next step in a new entry is to specify representatives and contacts. The representative connected to the current user is retrieved to the Main Representative field and a record is added to the Representatives section.
