To prepare an FMECA analysis, select the mandatory data defined in the Basic Data: Item Class, Process Class, and CM Standards in Prepare FMECA Page.
Item Class represents a broad category of equipment within an organization. For example, an Item Class could be PUMP, MOTOR, CRANE or GENERATOR. Item Class helps in categorizing equipment into general groups based on their functionality or type, allowing for standardized analysis and maintenance procedures across similar types of equipment. Each Item Class encompasses multiple components that collectively perform the primary function of the class.
Process Class defines the context or environment in which the item operates. Process Class can be based on geographical locations (e.g., ARCTIC, TROPIC) or specific systems (e.g., COOLING WATER SYSTEM, POWER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK).
CM Standards, defined in the basic data, are essential for assessing the risk associated with each failure mode. When preparing the FMECA analysis, select the appropriate CM Standard from the drop-down.
These classifications help in understanding the operating conditions and potential failure scenarios specific to the environment or system, thereby tailoring the analysis to the unique challenges faced by the equipment in those contexts.
Provide an Analysis Name (e.g., Crane Trolley Speed FMECA), with a maximum character count of 200. The Facilitator Name defaults to the logged in user. The Revision field fills in by default when creating a new FMECA. Click Save to generate a new FMECA Analysis, and an Analysis ID generates automatically.
Once a new FMECA is created, modifications can be made to the Item Class, Process Class, and CM Standards fields.
Note: It is not possible to create another FMECA for the same Item Class and Process Class combination.
After creating a new FMECA, it progresses through the following statuses: Preliminary, In Progress, In Review, Approved, Active, and Obsolete. If an FMECA is in the In Review status, it can be changed back to In Progress. However, once an FMECA is Approved or Active, its status cannot revert to In Progress or In Review.
When creating FMECA revisions, only one revision can be in Active status. If the previous status is Active, a warning message appears:"Previous Active revision for the FMECA Analysis will be set to Obsolete". If Ok is selected, the previous revision changes to Obsolete.
Note: The New Revision option is disabled when the status is Preliminary, In Progress, or In Review.
The Journal tab in the Prepare FMECA page includes a list of actions taken for the selected FMECA analysis. This includes the date when the FMECA analysis is initially created, any changes in its status as it progresses through various stages such as Preliminary, In Progress, In Review, Approved, Active, and Obsolete, and records of any revisions made to the analysis, capturing updates and modifications over time. Additionally, the tab indicates whether the admin toggle is switched on or off, providing insights into administrative actions
Item Class, Process Class and CM standards basic data should be defined.
As a result of this activity, a new FMECA is created.
